STRASBOURG STAYED THE SUBVERSION OF ROMA HOUSES
9th july 2008
European court of human rights prohibited Bulgarian authorities to level to the ground the Roma district "Batalova Vodenitsa”, the Bulgarian National Radio announced.
The subversion had been fixed for 11 july, but the court has requested from the government to report in detail up to 23 july what measures have been taken concerning providing homes for the children, the old people and the people with the handicaps, that will be put out from their homes.
The court also demanded that lists with the addresses of the provided housings be also included.
The appeal is placed in Strasbourg in 2006.
The Bulgarian Helsinki Commission represents the appealers before the European court agency.
Differing from their Bulgarian colleagues, the judges in the European court think that the people have the right to have a home and a personal and family life, doesn’t matter if they have formal documents of possession or not.
